Music Tuition

I am Catherine Bowe, a music and music technology graduate living in Chelmsford, England. I privately tutor the keyboard, piano, music theory, GCSE and A' level music and music technology to students in the Chelmsford area.

I hold a licentiate diploma in music teaching from the Victoria College of Music (London), grade 8 music theory with Trinity College (London) and a BA (Hons) in Music Technology from The University of West London. I am a keyboard player and saxophonist and graduated as a teacher in May 2000.

I teach keyboard or piano to those of any ability, in the style of their choice, from the age of 6 years old and upwards. Young children of primary school age may be chaperoned during lessons. Please make sure that your child knows the alphabet thoroughly and can do simple addition and subtraction sums with the numbers from 1-10 before starting their lessons.

Adult beginners and older students who wish to return to lessons after a break are always welcome. Nervous learners are also encouraged to give lessons a try!

To date, my students have 100% pass rate with ABRSM exams. I will also teach the Trinity Guildhall, LCM and VCM syllabuses at request. Exams are a helpful way of measuring progress and give a student something to focus on whilst learning. I never insist that my students take exams; the choice is completely their own. However, I do insist that all my students learn music theory as well as practical skills.

I also teach music theory to Grade 8 as an independent study for students wishing to catch-up for the sake of their practical exams.

I teach all parts of the GCSE and A' level syllabus in music and music technology, including history, composition and general music theory.

Music technology students will be taught using their own music technology, if they have a home or mobile studio of some kind. If, however, the student wishes to pursue instruction in music technology and doesn't have the facilities themselves I will provide them in my own home. I use Apple Mac based solutions.

I generally teach at my own home in central Chelmsford. However, please be aware that I live in a 3rd floor flat although there is a lift.

I write and produce music, sound-as-art projects, radio-styled plays, music videos, audio replacement for video and spoof films. I also write short stories. For those who are curious about my URL, “Flame-Red” is my online handle (nickname).
